December Luncheon Topic: In this Season of Giving, Giving Your Time Through Mentoring is a Priceless Gift

Marion WBC
December 1, 2019

Set for Monday, December 9, 11:30 a.m., the Marion Women’s Business Council’s next luncheon meeting will feature Erin Slater, director of Marion Mentors, outlining the program and describing how mentoring can greatly impact the life of a student … and the volunteer.   The event will be in the Memorial Room located on the second floor of The Executive Building (formerly META Solutions), 100 Executive Drive, in Marion.

The Marion Mentors program has been around for four years, and Slater is their first full-time director.   She started in this role in September of 2018, and said, “I love the entire experience of matching community volunteers with Marion county students.  This program has been both eye-opening and rewarding.”  Marion Mentors currently serves The Marion City Schools, Elgin, Ridgedale, and The Tomorrow Center.  They currently have 87 volunteers matched with 187 students … which Slater says equals 225 lives changed forever.

Slater grew up here in Marion.  She graduated from Harding in 2009, then earned her Bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communications from The Ohio State University.  After graduating college, she married her husband, Jerrod Slater, and moved back to her hometown.  The Slaters now have two little girls:  two- year-old Willa and a three- month-old Mara.

A Marion advocate, Slater truly believes this is a great city to raise a family and loves the positive movement happening with the increase of local businesses and supportive programs.  She is excited to work on growing the mentoring program and continue to help more students realize their potential and provide them with another supportive person in their lives to be their champion.

Reservations for this event must be received by Tuesday, December 3.  They can be made by sending an email to mrn.wbc@gmail.com or by calling Sherry, Membership Co-Chair, at 740-751-6950.  Luncheons are $15 and guests are welcome with a reservation.

The Marion Women’s Business Council’s mission is to inspire women to reach their full potential through mentoring, networking, education, and recognition.  WBC luncheons are held the second Monday of each month, September through May. Anyone interested in joining may browse our website for a membership application and a complete program schedule. Those interested in joining are also encouraged to attend a luncheon to find out more.
