December Luncheon features Cyber Security

Marion WBC
November 17, 2017

Duane GerstenbergerDuane Gerstenberger will discuss Cyber Security at the December meeting of the Marion Women’s Business Council. Set for Monday, December 11th, the event will run from 11:30 to 1:00, and will be held in the Guthery Room located on the second floor of Maynard Hall on The Ohio State University at Marion campus.

As we become more and more digital both at work and at home, checking bank accounts, paying bills and purchasing items online, can we truly say we are well versed in protecting ourselves from theft and fraud? In fact, one of the most problematic elements of cyber security is the quickly evolving nature of security risks.

A leader in his field, Gerstenberger is a full-time Professor of Business and Information Technologies at Marion Technical College holding a BBA and an MBA from Mt. Vernon Nazarene University. He is a Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and teaches a variety of CIT courses, including IT Essentials/A+, various Microsoft Server courses, Computer Security Fundamentals, and Computer Applications. Gerstenberger has 27 years of Information Technology experience, and was the lead faculty in the research, design and development of the Cyber Security degree. This included his participation in the Community College Cyber Summit (3CS) held in Pittsburgh, PA in 2016 and in Washington D.C. in 2017.

Also featured at the December luncheon will be a drive on behalf of Marion’s Christmas Clearinghouse. Members are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped item for children, age new born to 17, to the meeting for donation to this local charity. Items may include toys, hats, gloves, scarves, books, games, etc. Members may also bring a cash donation that the Christmas Clearinghouse will put towards purchasing food.

Reservations for this event must be received by Wednesday, December 6. They can be made by sending an email to [email protected] or by calling Sherry Goodman, Membership Co-Chair, at 740-751-6950.

All 2017-2018 luncheon events will held in the Guthery Room at Maynard Hall on the Ohio State University at Marion campusc, with a price of $13 per lunch with the exception of the March Athena award presentation. Guests are always welcome with an RSVP.

The Marion Women’s Business Council’s mission is to inspire women to reach their full potential through mentoring, networking, education, and recognition.
