2015-ATHENA-WinnerFor the 18th year in a row the Marion Women’s Business Council has chosen a woman of distinction to receive its annual ATHENA sculpture. For 2015, the prestigious sculpture was presented to Jody Demo-Hodgins, Executive Director Crawford-Marion Board of Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health.

Angela Carbetta, Demo-Hodgins nominator, stated “I have known and loved Jody for many years. We partnered on Marion County’s first Medication Disposal Day in 2010. I was touched by Jody’s thorough, professional approach, all the while demonstrating heartfelt compassion for those affected by drug abuse and addiction.”

This year’s nominees also included Winnie Brewer, Tami Galloway, Heidi Jones, Quiana Revere, Pam Stone, Lynn Zucker.

The luncheon event showcased the nominees as well as inspirational insight about the ATHENA program by ATHENA International’s Jan McDermott. She covered the values the ATHENA leadership model is based upon: The Authentic Self, Relationships, Giving Back, Collaboration, Courageous Acts, Learning, Fierce Advocacy, Celebration and Joy.

The silent auction brought in over $2,200 to go to Jody’s non-profit choice – Marion Matters. A sponsorship agreement with Modern Woodman of American will match those funds.

Noted past recipients of the ATHENA sculpture include: Phyllis Butterworth, Angie Carbetta, Judge Teresa Ballinger, Trella Romine, Diane Watson, Tarina Rose, Kathy Masters, Vicki Wood, Sheryl Rhoades, Sandra Lepard, Elaine Merchant, Diane Glassmeyer, Anne Lowe, Karen Ream, Deb Rapert, Lori Litzenberg, and Lois Fisher.
